The Three C's

As much as I love getting dolled up and glamorous over the holiday season I'm also going to keep it real and admit that most of the time, I like to dress according to the three C's : Casual , Comfy and Cozy!

Despite the relative lack of snow around here (which I'm not complaining about!) it's still been pretty chilly and that was no exception last week when James and I were doing some running around downtown.

I'm a person who definitely dresses for the occasion so my outfits and my style vary greatly depending on my plans for the day. On this particular day, I knew we'd be out and about running errands, driving around and doing a bit of walking from building to building outdoors in the cold. Because of this, I knew I needed to be warm and cozy and of course, comfortable for running around.

I recently received a pair of these Ecco Ukiuk boots and they've barely left my feet ever since. They remind me of a more grown up version of my furry boots I used to wear in high school. These boots are so soft and cozy on the inside that I never want to take them off! Plus, they're incredibly comfortable if you have to be on your feet all day like I often am.

Living in Alberta (or any cold climate) is a constant struggle between practicality and style. As I've gotten older, I've realized that there's nothing cute about FREEZING half to death in a leather jacket and ballet flats in -20 degree weather just to look "cool", so I appreciate when I find warm weather pieces that meet the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, I had to learn that lesson the hard way...

When I was 16 before I bought my first car I had to take the bus everywhere. Public transportation is not always the most user friendly and as a busy girl who had two jobs, was on student council, in theater and played volleyball - my busy schedule made getting around a bit tough. I remember one day I was on my way home from practice or a rehearsal or something and the bus schedules were all over the show so rather than waiting outside for 15 minutes for the next bus, I decided to walk home.

I should mention there were a few feet of snow on the ground, it was probably minus twenty degrees and I was wearing ballet flats. It took me way longer than it should have to walk home because my feet were quite literally freezing and they were swelling due to the extreme cold. I may as well have been walking through the snow barefoot and when I got home in tears, it took my mom and my brother over half an hour to calm me down and get my feet to the point where they didn't look like red swollen balloons! Yikes :/

That day was the day I learned that it is not worth freezing to avoid being practical and I can say now that as a grown woman, I'm always on the lookout for items like these boots that are both cute and practical.

So there you have it - a little history behind the reason I now try to blend practicality and style and I'm happy to say, I think I'm mastering the look. Do you have any cute, cozy and comfy pieces that you wear on repeat during the cooler months; I'd love to hear about how you survive these colder days in style!
