Snapchat Butterfly Filter DIY And Makeup Tutorial

Okay I'm SO excited for today's blog post because this is an idea I had in mind for months before finally being able to make it a reality. This year for Halloween I've been sharing a lot of female empowerment (aka badass females) costume ideas but let's say you're a little like me and leave things to the last minute but want a rockin' halloween costume. Today's post, is for you.

With a bit of makeup, some gold paper and bobby pins you can transform yourself into the most flattering snapchat filter ever - the glow-y, golden butterfly filter! (See this post to see which one I mean)

For this costume, let's start with the butterflies. You'll need gold glittery paper, scissors, a hot glue gun, a pen and gold spray paint (optional).

Trace your butterflies onto the back of the glitter scrap paper and cut them out. Gently bend them in half so they appear a little more 3 dimensional. If you want, spray paint the backside gold so that no white paper is showing. Next, use a hot glue gun and affix the butterflies to the bobby pins and let cool.

Next up comes the makeup. I'm so thankful that I have my cousin Stephanie who's a professional makeup artist however, you can totally get this look yourself. You'll want to bust out all of your shimmer for this one - trust me. Here's what I used:

-Foundation: Covergirl Clean Oil Control Liquid Foundation

-Powder: NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder

-Bronzer: Rimmel Natural Bronzer

-Glow Palette: Caryl Baker Northern Lights Glow Palette

-Eyeshadow: Caryl Baker Eyeshadow in Noel

-Lipstick: Zoya Lipstick in Cameron

-Lip Gloss: Caryl Baker Lip Gloss in Golden

-Lashes: Thrive Causemetics Robin Lashes

-Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex

-Shimmer: Splashwalk

Start with a fresh, clean, exfoliated and moisturised face. Before I started this look I also prepped my lips using the Frilly Lilly brown sugar lip scrub and used the coconut creme lip butter to moisturise my lips.

Steph began by putting foundation on my face and then went immediately to my eyes and went all over golden with my eyeshadow.

Next up it was time to contour - hellooooo cheekbones! Steph used the Rimmel bronzer for the dramatic contouring and then the Caryl Baker glow palette for an overall bronzy and glow-y look. After using the glow kit she brought out the big guns when it comes to shimmer. Let me tell you guys a little goes a long way with this stuff but it was PERFECT for this look!

Once I was transformed into a glowing goddess it was time to apply my lashes. If you don't already know about Thrive Causemetics, please take a minute to read about them here. I just love their company and these Robin lashes were the perfect va-va voom I needed for this look!

We used Zoya's nude lipstick  as a base coat for my lips and topped them off with Caryl Baker gloss.

Just check out how gorgeous and glowy this turned out! I don't think I've ever felt so radiant!

Once my makeup was done it was time to bust out those butterflies! I chose to use the bobby pins to attach the butterflies to a thin headband I had or else you can always just bobby pin the butterflies in place. Once the butterflies were in place the look was complete!

I think it's safe to say I'm obsessed with this costume idea. So easy, so simple and so fun! To go the extra mile paint your nails gold as well and make sure to add the glow palette to your neck and collarbone also.

Happy DIY-ing!
