What Are You Reading: Girlboss Edition

A little while back I shared my first post in a series called "What are you reading" where I shared some of the books that a few of my fellow Alberta bloggers were reading. Today, I want to share another post in that series but I'm focussing on some major #GIRLBOSS babes. I consider myself lucky to know them and look up to them for not only their work ethic but their kindness and involvement in the community as well. So, without further ado, meet a few serious girl boss gals and take a look at what they're reading!

Kendall Barber: Co-founder of Poppy Barley (& thanks Kendall for the photo above!)

Kendall has set the bar high with a goal to read a book a week (mine is one a month!) so here's what she says was on her nightstand for March:

rebar Modern Food Cookbook by Audrey Alsterburg and Wanda Urbanowicz

I read cookbooks from cover to cover. While attending the University of Victoria, I loved this vegetarian eatery.

Advanced Marathoning by Pete Pfitzinger

I have big marathon goals this year. I'm keen to understand the 'why' behind my tempo, steady-state and interval runs.

Get a Grip by Gino Wickman

A few entrepreneurs have recommended this book to me.

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

All the critical acclaim, the relevancy in today's society.

"I always seem to have 2 or 3 books on the go and I almost exclusively read non-fiction (even by the pool). The book I'm currently reading is Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling. I don't typically read these types of books but I was visiting a friend in New York and she gave it to me 'cause she had too many books on the go. This book is surprising me - it's actually quite funny. I like it because it's honest, it's relatable and it's funny as hell. I feel like some of her stories could have happened to me at one point in my life!

Erinn Treb: Owner of Shop The Skinny

"First off, I must confess that after a busy day at the shop then busy at home with the kiddos there isn't much room in my brain for a serious novel so I usually find myself reaching for something easy and fun. And for whatever reason I seem to always have two books on the go - which sort of dictates my insane life lately too, I suppose! ;)

--Anna And The Swallow Man, by Gavriel Savit. This book grabbed my attention immediately simply for the fact that it was featured in Krakow, Poland, where my husband's family and heritage is from. Call it being brainwashed 'all things Polish' for the last 12 years ;). That, and the fact that I've always been drawn to history. And although this is a fictional novel I was intrigued to get lost in a story about a little adventure and an unlikely friendship formed in a very troubled and scary time. Half way through and so far so good!!

--Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I picked up this book on the fly, and I am so happy that I did! I have always enjoyed a little fantasy-type of novel (guilty! I love trilogy type of books - Hunger Games, Discovery of Witches, and the Divergent books) but have found that it's become slightly overdone. This novel I've found however, is a new spin on those types of genres and it's totally kept my interest so far! It has a bit of fantasy, a bit of magic, a bit of nobility, and a bit of mystery! Totally takes my mind to a new world and isn't that what books are all about after all?!"

Nicole Rice: Owner of Sweet Jolie

"I'm currently reading "All In" by Arlene Dickinson. Arlene is a business woman that I really look up to and that I feel I can learn so much from in regards to balancing my boundaries between my personal life as a wife and mother and my professional life as an entrepreneur."
