Sleep, Stay & Be Cozy - Our Stay at Brookside Inn
Today I wanted to show a little love to the coziest retreat in Abbotsford, Brookside Inn. As I started working away on a post all about what to do, where to stay and where to eat in Abbotsford (post coming soon!) the first section I sat down to write was about our stay at Brookside and before I knew it, it became a post unto itself. James and I fell in love and today I want to share that love with you so read on!
Brookside Inn is a luxury boutique hotel owned by couple Sandi and Chris Buis. As soon as we turned the corner and saw Brookside from the road I knew we were in for a special stay. The Inn is surrounded by a gorgeous garden and is next to a vineyard. Our balcony had incredible views of Pepin Brook Vineyard and Mt Baker, not to mention the stunning grounds and garden at the Inn.
What's especially unique about Brookside is that each room is decorated in a different style based on a movie. We stayed in the 'Midnight In Paris' suite which I was incredibly excited about because I love that movie! Our room had a small "kitchen" area with a sink, microwave and fridge and we were welcomed with a charcuterie plate that we devoured before we could even snap a photo (oops!). We also had a comfortable living area, a small desk area where you could sit and work, a large bathroom with the most amazing tub (seriously!) and a separate bedroom complete with walk in closet.
Our space had french and parisian inspired decor touches as an homage to the movie and there were even books in the nook area that were written by the authors that were part of the Midnight in Paris movie. There were so many small details that helped pull the room together and create a charming and cozy oasis.
In addition to the charming rooms and breakfast room there's a cinema room with games, tv posters and a large tv that's perfect for relaxing in after a long day. Rather than watch in the cinema room however, we chose to relax and watch a few movies in our own room. There's a cabinet on the second floor that's full of DVD's and James and I watched a few movies in the evenings during our stay. As a bonus, in our room you could totally see the tv from the huge tub so I definitely lounged in the bubble bath to watch a movie on our first night! Plus I loved all of the nods to film throughout the hotel through posters and other accents.
The best part about our stay though had to be the food! haha (Let's be honest, we all know that's the way to my heart) I had been told that the 'farm to table' eat local philosophy was a big deal in Abbotsford so every morning with your stay at Brookside, a homemade farm to table breakfast is included. I think I had been expecting your typical breakfast that you get at most hotels so I was blown away when on the first morning Sandi brought out crepes with cinnamon apples, fresh fruit, whipped cream and a poached pair along with local sausage. It took everything in me to not scarf it all down in record time. On the second morning we enjoyed an omelette with sausage, sundried tomatoes and fresh herbs with fresh fruit. Even typing about it now has me craving it again! I've never had a breakfast like that before at any hotel I've ever stayed at! I think it's safe to say that the two breakfasts we had at Brookside were better than any other hotel restaurant I've ever eaten at.
I think the true difference with Brookside Inn compared to any other hotel is how every detail seems to have been thought of. From the fresh and local charcuterie platter when you arrive to the fireplace in your living room, the walk in closets, keyless entry to your room, high speed wifi and the products left out for your use (bubble bath, bath salts, shampoo and conditioner and more), Chris and Sandi seem to have thought of every detail and home comfort and brought it into their inn.
They're currently expanding their Inn to include two more suites and I'll be excited to see them completed as I know that James and I will be returning for another relaxing getaway.
I'd also like to say a huge thank you to Chris and Sandi for being the most incredible hosts and having James and I stay, we'll absolutely be back!
