Let's Talk Healthy Habits
Can you believe we're almost halfway through August already?! It feels like it was only a few weeks ago that I was ringing in the new year and setting goals for the year ahead. Seeing as we're more than halfway through the year I thought it would be a good time to check in and chat about healthy habits. After working myself into a near state of exhaustion a few months back I made a goal to re-prioritize myself and my health so I'm always on the hunt for new tips to make my life healthier without taking up a ton of time (or money!). I like to try to find small ways throughout the day to make some 'me time' and prioritize my health and these are a few of the ways I semi-regularly practice self care. I'd love to know what you do to incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine!
Start the Day With Some Zest
Something I try to do is start my day with warm lemon water. I drink SO much coffee (like unhealthy amounts of coffee) so I feel like if I at least start the day on a healthy note, maybe it will start to balance the amount of caffeine I take in every day! Starting the day with warm lemon water helps to not only hydrate the body right from the get go but also flush the digestive system setting you up for a good day ahead!
Get in Those Greens
Local company Urban Leaf has been a huge help for me getting my greens in. When I get busy and overwhelmed the first thing that I tend to drop is eating well but the small wheatgrass shots are really easy to incorporate into my day so I know that I'm getting major vitamins and antioxidants even if I don't eat well the rest of the day. These Urban Leaf wheatgrass shots help to restore the pH levels for your body to function optimally. Best taken on it's own as a super shot, if the flavour is a bit too strong for you (as it sometimes is for me), blend it up in a smoothie for all of the benefits without the strong flavour.
Find Your Om
Ooh you guys this one is so important but the one I struggle with the most - finding time to meditate/journal/relax. It's so important for your mental health to take short breaks to clear your mind and allow for mental rest. I'm not always very good at this but I find that even 5 minutes of meditation makes a huge difference in my mental clarity, productivity and happiness. I've been using the Headspace App but I'd love to know if there are any apps you guys use for meditation! If meditating isn't your jam, even taking a few minutes to unplug and read a book can make a huge difference in your ability to focus and feel more balanced throughout the rest of the day.
Get those steps in
I love getting in a good workout but some days it's a miracle if I get out of the house nevermind get in a high intensity workout. My goal as of late has been to get in my 10,000 steps. I find that even just taking a quick break after lunch to walk for 20 minutes around the block has been huge in helping me achieve this goal. In setting this goal I now am more conscious to make sure that I get up and get moving every few hours. It might be small but at least it's a step (ha!) in the right direction.
Those are a few of the ways I'm trying to incorporate more healthy habits into my daily routine. What are some of yours?
