Today I want to show off an easy and inexpensive way to knock your hosts' socks off and I promise you, it's way simpler than it seems.

Quite often when we go to a party we'll offer "I'll bring an appie" or "let me take care of dessert" and after this post, you'll be wanting to offer to bring dessert and absolutely dominate it! haha With this dessert, people will not only love it for the taste, but it'll look so good you almost won't want to cut into it.

So let's get started, shall we? Here's what you'll need....

Start simple with a semi naked cake. If you're blessed to have a beautiful, talented and delicious baker such as Brianne Gabrielle Cakes at your disposal - ordering a small semi naked cake won't break the bank. Or, if you're someone who unlike myeslf, can actually bake - try your hand at your own minimalist naked or semi naked cake.

Next, it's time to add the wow factor - aka - the florals and greenery. For this 6" cake I used 3 roses, 2 star of bethlehem flowers (aka - Ornithogalum thyrsioides  or the 'Chesapeake Snowflake') and 3 snapdragons but you can select any flowers of your choosing. To keep this extra affordable - I purchased these from the grocery store, so in total, the flowers were less than $20!

Start by cutting your flowers so they're roughly 2-3" long. Trim the leaves off of the roses and cut the roses right at the base. Now, depending on what type of flowers you choose and how squeamish you are about food and floral cross contamination, the tip I received from Brianne Gabrielle Cakes is to wrap the stems of your flowers with saran before placing into the cake. Some flowers are actually poisonous so you'll want to research the type you pick and if they are, make sure to wrap the ends in saran before piercing into your cake.

I started with one of the roses then placed in the star of bethlehem flower and began building out from there. There's really no right or wrong way to do this, just layer in the flowers and greenery as you see fit. I then placed two stems of the snapdragon flower around the bottom of the cake and voila! I was done.
