Wear What You Want

Hey guys, today on the blog I want to talk about confidence. Oh boy, this is a tough one. I don't know about you but sometimes it feels like there are all kinds of forces working away to chip away at your confidence. It's hard especially as women when we're constantly bombarded with images of what society deems as "beautiful" which if we're being honest here -  are quite often images that represent an unattainable standard. We live in an age where we consume information and images so quickly that we don't even realize all of the subliminal messages we're constantly being fed about how to look and feel.

love yourself

As a girl who's got some curves, this can be especially tough sometimes. This is why I love artists like Meghan Trainor who rocks what she's got, wears what she wants and does it with flair and confidence! From sparkly skin tight dresses and bedazzled numbers to oversized and fuzzy animal onesies, her attitude of being a strong and confident woman is one that I definitely try to emulate. It's taken me a long time in my life to become confident in my skin and with my appearance and how I feel. I'm happy to say that most days, I feel fabulous and I wear exactly what I want, without second thought.

wear what you want

We all have our off days for sure, but I want to try to feel my best as often as possible, even when I might not be feelin' so hot. If you have a bad day, don't get great feedback from a work project, or maybe it's that 'time of the month' and you're not quite feeling yourself, there are a few things you can do to try to get yourself back to feelin' fly and radiant!

1. Repeat after me....

"I am strong, I am smart, I am beautiful"

A mantra can be an incredibly powerful tool for self confidence. I strongly believe in the power of energy and positivity and that you will attract the energy that you put out there into the world. If you keep telling yourself you're not ____ enough, whether that's thin, pretty, smart, etc - that's the energy you're going to put out there. Instead, try for one week to look yourself in the mirror and say your mantra out loud to yourself and really try to believe it when you say it, even if you maybe don't. You'll be surprised by the end of the week how much you truly do believe what you're telling yourself and likely your confidence will be sky high!

2. Fake it till you make it

On the same note as telling yourself your mantra even if you don't believe it yet, a great way to gain confidence it to pretend you are. I get it, this one isn't easy. If you're nervous to walk into a room alone and would normally walk in head down staring at your phone, try walking in with your head up and smiling. You might be uncomfortable but the more you do it, the better it will get and soon, you won't be faking it anymore! Whatever your insecurity is, try to embrace it and don't let it get you down! For me, that has meant in the past embracing my curves and learning to love them rather than hiding them. Give some thought to what insecurity you'd like to overcome and then challenge yourself to take actionable steps to overcome them by embracing them. When you fake it long enough, one day you'll realize you truly are confident and your radiance will shine through!

3. Arm yourself with what you need

When I'm feeling self conscious about something, I try to do everything I can to eliminate those insecurities so that they're not constantly on my mind and causing me to be stressed. If I'm wearing a shorter dress and feeling self conscious, I put on a pair of shorts underneath so I'm not uncomfortable and tugging at my dress all night. If I've got an event coming up in the summer and I don't feel like I quite have that "J Lo Glow" I'm going for, I'll treat myself to a spray tan. When I'm on my period the last thing I want to be feeling is insecure or uncomfortable about what I'm wearing. With Tampax Radiant I know I can wear WHATEVER I want and I'll be covered thanks to the leakguard braid that gives me confidence knowing I'll be leak free! This way I won't be worried all day or night about leaks or any uncomfortable situations. There's nothing better than being able to shake yo booty, wear white, say yes to shorts or get out there and have a good time no matter what time of the month it is, so go get it girl!

4. Get out and have fun!

The last and likely most important tip is to remember to have fun! Every day carve out some time to laugh, I truly believe it's the best thing you can do for yourself. So whether that means throwing on a killer outfit that makes you feel fabulous and getting out (even if it's just to get groceries!), or putting on some music and dancing around the house or going to see a movie or concert with friends- do something for you that makes you happy and will make you smile. That good energy and radiance is contagious, and who doesn't want to spread the good vibes through happiness and confidence?!
